Governing Board

Mr James Edwards Prior to joining Houghton Regis Primary School I was the Headteacher of a village Infant School in Buckinghamshire where I achieved an ‘excellent’ SIAMS inspection and a ‘good’ Ofsted inspection. Prior to Headship, I experienced many successful years as a Primary School teacher, having taught both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children in a variety of schools in Hertfordshire. These posts included two positions as a Deputy Headteacher and one position as an Interim Headteacher. In addition to my work in Primary Schools, in September 2018 I founded a Nursery School. This setting was also graded as ‘excellent’ by SIAMS in March 2019. I live in Hertfordshire and have one son and one daughter.
Tom Muldownie

Chair of Governors

I have worked within the IT Industry for many years within Government, Local Government and Financial sectors across the UK, US and many parts of Europe. I transitioned from being a Civil Servant to a Private Sector employee when the IT Department of the HMRC was taken over by a large US based company.

I have previously served as both a Governor and Chair of Governors at a primary school local to where I live – the one that both of my children attended.  I previously found that many of my skills and experiences were transferrable to the school environment – particularly in the areas of governance and finance. I hope to use those skills and experience to the benefit of Houghton Regis Primary as well as the Governing body.

I have worked for Local Authorities for 13 years, including roles in Learning and Development, School Admissions and Housing Operations. I have lived in Dunstable for over 25 years and am an active volunteer in the community, including supporting the local parkruns and regular volunteering for a Good Neighbour scheme. I have a master’s degree in Social Work and an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Counselling.

I have one daughter who has just started school. This is my first experience as a School Governor, I look forward to getting to know and working with Houghton Regis Primary School.

Alice Rogers I am a Year 6 Teacher at Houghton Regis Primary School. Four years ago I started working here as a Cover Supervisor, gaining classroom experience across KS1 and KS2. I have since worked across Year 5 and 6 as a Teacher. Before starting my degree in Education Studies, I worked with children in nursery and reception. Whilst studying for my degree, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for four years at a school in Luton. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new countries and spending time with family and friends. This is my first experience as a Staff Governor. I look forward to taking on this new role and sharing my school experience.
Samantha O’Connell

I am one of the schools Parent Governors. I work full time as a driving instructor which I have done since 1996. Doing my job gives me an understanding of teaching methods and how everyone learns differently, and adapting the teaching to suit their needs. I believe that my skill set helps me as a parent governor.

Being a part of the governing board will allow me to work with the school to ensure that all of the children can achieve their potential. I look forward to helping the children on their journey.

Kim McNeillis

I am a Science Teacher, specialising in Biology, with 12 years’ experience working in Hertfordshire Secondary Schools. During this time, I have held various roles within the schools and currently am a classroom teacher with an interest in developing teaching and learning.

I live in Houghton Regis with my husband and our two children- my son is currently in KS1 at Houghton Regis Primary School.

This is my first time working on a Governing Body and I am looking forward to seeing school life from a different perspective and hope to be able to bring some of my knowledge and understanding of the education system to this role.

Samantha Frey

I moved to Houghton Regis three years ago and have become an active volunteer within the local community. I sit on the executive committee for the Bidwell West Community Association and I am also a trustee for the Houghton Regis Community Development Charity. In my professional capacity I work as a solicitor specialising in corporate and commercial law. In my spare time I love to go to the gym and keep active. I look forward to joining the board of governors and sharing my skills and experience to help benefit the school.

I am relatively new to the Houghton Regis area, having only lived her for just over 2 years. I have worked in Finance for a number of years and when my eldest daughter was born I spent 6 years working in childcare.
I have 3 daughters at the school and this is my first experience as a school governor. I am looking forward to working with and for Houghton Regis Primary School.
